Editorial Reviews The Raleigh
Register, June 21, 1998 Book Description
The basis for this writing is 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline." In the first half of this book, we discover who these spirits represent and find encouragement to follow the ones that God desires of us. In the second half we discuss the application, especially directed toward the college student. While I Tell You the Truth was intended for the student away at college, many adults have found great encouragement for this book. From the

One thing I've learned is that when God calls us to perform a task, He's not concerned with our ability. He's more concerned about our availability. If you've read my book and found any encouragement, then please praise the Lord and not Randy. For it is the Spirit of God Himself that has spoken to you and encouraged you. To God be the glory! From the Back
Cover When God laid this book on my heart, my intention was to reach the college student or high school senior. Meanwhile, many adults have professed to me the same need for self-discipline. I speak from my heart when I say that my aim is not to sell books for a living, but to get the Word out - God's Word and encourage those who read this book to turn to the one book that will provide all the real answers. This project has been a true blessing for me. I pray you are blessed by it also. About the Author

before my heart decides to go on strike? And what is the exact speed I
can travel over the limit before the brothers in uniform will pull me
over? Oh, and how long do I have to stare at one of those hidden 3-D
posters before I am considered legally blind?!!! What are the limits? We
live in a society of limits. You can push this much or go that far
before anyone or anything will take action. What about our spiritual
life? What are the limits God allows us before He takes action? How
close to my mouth do I have to put that alcoholic beverage before the
temptation turns into a sin? How close can my girlfriend and I get in
our private place before God sees us committing immoral acts of sin? How
loud do I have to laugh at an off-color joke before God considers me a
partaker in the world? These are all good questions. And I don't know
why, but I have a feeling that some are sitting on the edge of their
seats right now waiting for the answers! Unfortunately, you're not going
to get the answer from me. I don't believe your going to get the answer
from God either. Why? Here's why: Just as I said before, we are a
society of laws. That's not a bad thing. If it were not for those laws
we would have no guidelines to follow and we would be lawless. Laws help
us understand what is right and wrong. Paul said if it were not for the
law, he would not know what sin is. The law sets guidlines. When it
comes to temptation leading to sin, you'll not find God giving man any
margin of error. It is only when man takes God's law and tries to
rewrite them, that we end up with limits. The Pharisees came up with
rules upon rules in addition to the law. They created man made limits to
try to conform to what they thought were God's limits. What really
happens here is that we twist the law to justify ourselves. Actually,
what we've created is a mind-set that tries to push and test God. This
is completely contrary to how God would want us to relate to him.
Remember how He calls us His children! This is another example of our
childish traits. What God really wants to see in us is that we emulate
Jesus. Christ fled from sin and rebuked Satan. He never saw how far He
could push, never tested any limits. Likewise, we are not to tempt the
Lord our God. (now that sounds familiar!) You see, when we read God's
word with eyes of flesh, we can twist what we read to fit our own
situation. We take it out of context. His word is not meant to be
twisted. It is meant to draw us nearer to Him. It is
meant to help us flee from sin and temptation. So the next time someone
asks, "Do you think it's a sin to go here or to do |
