THE MEDIATOR

I tell you the Truth,

When is the last time you visited the President of the United States ?  How about the Prime Minister of England or perhaps the King of Jordan?

Most of us never have that opportunity.  However, I know a few men who had such an opportunity a few years ago.  This group of men was given a rare privilege to meet with an extremely important international figure.  I won't mention the name because this email goes to parts of the world where this information cannot be openly discussed.

Anyway, my friends were telling me about this meeting that had been arranged for them.  I say "arranged" because you're not allowed to simply drop in and visit a king.  You must be asked and you must know someone to be allowed to enter the king's chamber.  These men just happened to know the friend of a friend who could get them an audience with the king.

They tell me that every step of the process involved security clearance. Every time they moved from one room to another, security guards were there to make sure they had clearance to proceed to the next room.  Finally, they were allowed to meet face to face with this world famous king at which time they talked and even prayed for this man by laying on hands.

The fact is, in order to meet someone of such high authority you need to have a connection.  That connection is a mediator, a link between you and the authority.  Quite often, there are advantages to "knowing someone" whenever we have a need or desire to be heard.

And that's how it was with Job as he laid suffering from all the calamities of his miserable life.

Job 9:
33If only there were someone to arbitrate between us,
to lay his hand upon us both,
34someone to remove God's rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more.
35Then I would speak up without fear of him,
but as it now stands with me, I cannot.

Job needed someone who could stand between him and God and arbitrate or mediate.  He needed to know someone who could reach both man and God, creating a link that seems impossible.  Job needed a mediator.

I've got news.  Not only does Job need a mediator to connect him with God, but so do you and I.  Not unlike an earthly king, I need to know someone who can usher me into the presence of the heavenly king.  I cannot simply enter in without a mediator.  I need someone who can "lay his hand upon us both." And there is only one mediator who can reach from God to man and allow us an audience with God.

1 Timothy 2:
5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.

Without Jesus, no man has a chance to enter the King's throne room.  You may have heard about the King or even had a chance to get a glimpse of the King. But the fact remains that you cannot enter into the King's private room - unless you know a mediator.

To truly understand a mediator, we need to note that he doesn't just represent one side to the other.

Galatians 3:
20A mediator, however, does not represent just one party; but God is one.

Not only does Jesus allow us to see the King, but he also allows the King to see us.  God, in His infinite glory, could not allow us to enter into His presence in our sinful nature.  Sin cannot touch His holiness.  So Jesus makes a way not only for us to meet the King, but for the King to meet us! The blood He shed makes it possible.

We need a mediator just a Job needed a mediator.  I need Him today, tomorrow and into eternity.

Hebrews 9:
15For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

Get to know Him.  He's your only hope.

Your Servant,

Randy Hunt

Prayer Requests (and Praises!)

“Please pray for my grandma Moye who is 102 years old and having trouble with her mind.
-Nicole”

Please continue in pray for my father.  He was in Richmond Friday to have an MRI and consult with his cancer doctor.  The results were pretty much as we expected – no hope and little encouragement.  Thank God that my hope isn’t in doctors.  Please join me as we keep praying for my father’s soul and for prolonged life.

Please reply if you have prayer requests, comments or simply need an open ear. I always enjoy hearing from you.
