Half Life

I tell you the Truth,

This is another edition of Truth Works Devotions featuring our ministry partner Blake Porter.  Blake has a fresh, fun, "in your face" writing style that will set you up and then hit you with the truth.  I pray you are blessed as I am by his writing!

Truth Works plans to alternate messages from Blake and Randy to give you a fresh perspective in your devotion reading!

Please give me the luxury of sounding smart for a minute. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

In the early 1900’s, scientists began studying nuclear particles. During the research they discovered that radioactivity in most nuclear substances dissipates naturally over time. They began measuring this phenomenon in units of HALF-LIFE – the time required for a nuclear material to lose half its energy.

It's fair to say that anything nuclear has the ability to become the most powerful thing known to man. Put enough of those particles together and they could wipe out an entire city, if not cities. But yet we still see how the most powerful thing known to man naturally loses its power over time.

By the way, after reading 3 minutes of this article my brain exploded when they started showing me the formulas of how to calculate this phenomenon. They wrote out these formulas and explained it as if I was going to understand. If your laughing, yes I did feel like a moron. Then it hit me. I am not a scientist, I was not wired to think like a nuclear physicist, but I did connect with the basics.

And that is that you and I are just like a nuclear particle. If there are enough of us working together, we are very powerful. I thought about it and pictured a church. You have all these people working together as one body for Christ. Some are just relentless in their pursuit of God and others are
Just living in the phase of what we can call Half-Life.

I get emails all the time from young people telling me that feel they are not as close to God as they used to be. My first question is, “Are you in the Word everyday?” They answer, No, not like I should!” Second question, “Are you in prayer everyday?” They answer, No, I am so tired when I go to sleep at night that I either don’t pray or I fall asleep in my attempt to pray.

Does this sound like you? If it is, don’t beat yourself up – We all are going to have Half-Life phases in our lives but we don’t have to stay there. I was told when I was called into ministry to run as fast and as hard as I could for the Lord, because one day, I will just want to rest. In other words, “Blake, one day you will be a living, breathing, Half-Life. But it was told to me like once I got to this point that it was OK. Like I had earned a medal of honor or something! I could just chill out on the front porch sipping sun tea in the summer, refusing to budge out of my rocker.

But to tell you the truth I FEAR becoming that person. I don’t want to be a Half-Life! How about you? Is there anyone out there, that wants to always have the candle burning? Better yet, who wants to be a never ending forest fire that is not only relentless in seeking God, but is also relentless in telling others about him?

Sounds to me like it would be really easy to be a Half-Life….for me, I would rather get beat up everyday, get all dirty and sweaty because of this never-ending purpose I have on my life.

Psalms 95:1-7
1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
3 For the LORD is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
7 for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.

God bless and peace out,
Blake Porter

About Blake
Blake Porter is an Ordained Minister and National Youth Evangelist. He is branded by a fiery belief that we need to recognize the passion that many of us have inside that burns for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! That we will not be ashamed of what we believe! We will confidently step over the line; we won't look back, let up, slow down, or relax. We will live by prayer and by the Word, we will understand our road is narrow but our mission is set. We cannot be detoured or compromised! We will not flinch in sharing our faith nor will we negotiate at the table of our enemy. We will not shut up, give up, retreat or run in fear, for we are saved by the blood of Christ and that passion will be our banner and that banner will be heard!!!

Mission
His mission is to passionately declare the truth of the Gospel without compromise as he and his team challenge teenagers and young adults to take a stand and raise their voices for Christ within the walls of their schools, in their communities, and around the world.

Blake can be heard speaking at churches, youth events, colleges, concerts and conferences throughout the year.

Blake and his beautiful wife Missy reside in Frisco, TX.
