People Be Ready

I tell you the Truth,

Hello friends!  It’s been a while, but I’m back.  And there’s good reason that I’m back, but you’ll have to read on to find out why!

Luke 12:
35"Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. 39But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."

Speaking in another parable, Jesus stresses to His disciples an important principle - be ready because the master will return unexpectedly.  Of course, if you’re like me, this isn’t really news.  We’ve been taught since children’s church that Christ is coming back and we need to be ready.

However, I believe that being ready means more than just accepting the gift of salvation.  It’s more than just having your ticket punched for heaven.  Being ready means being active, being caught in the act of service, being readily prepared to serve.

When we accept the salvation of Christ, God never intends for us to sit back and enjoy the ride.  While there is no means to work for our salvation, there is a command to work out our salvation (Philippians 2:12).

And there is a profound reason why we’re to be ready for service.  God has an awesome desire to use me and you for His service, which means, there are people out there who depend upon us to receive what God has for them.

41Peter asked, "Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?"
42The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time?

When we’re obedient, God uses us to feed His children.  And it’s because of this very scripture that I’m writing to you today.

To be honest, I’ve been praying for sometime about whether or not I should continue this ministry.  After all, I’ve been writing devotions for ten years and I have so many other things going on right now that are so time consuming.  When I first began to write, I had one child, who was only two years old.  Now my kids are eight and twelve (and busy!)  I’ve prayed (and tried to convince God) about moving on in other directions.

A few days ago, I was praying about this matter with great urgency.  You see, my yearly contract for my email distribution service is up this month.  I should add that the service isn’t free.  So, if the devotions were going to stop, now was the time.

Within five minutes of that prayer I sat down to study my Sunday school lesson.  And there was the answer in verse 42, “give them their food allowance at the proper time.”

Well, I believe the proper time is now.  So Truth Works will press on until He instructs me otherwise.

I encourage you to also consider your service.  Are you ready to serve, ready to be used, ready to feed at the proper time?  I hope so.  If not, perhaps it’s time to get on track and seek God’s will.

Again, it’s great to be back.  I appreciate your prayers!

Your Servant,

Randy Hunt
