In The Name Of Love I tell you the Truth, Last time, we ended our letter by encouraging you to spend your devotion time worshiping God. It’s not a chore to worship God. If your devotion time is a chore, then it’s turned into something that’s not worship. Today, let’s take a look at how I turn my devotion time from being a chore into a worship experience? First of all, we need to understand the reality of life. Everything we do has consequences, both good and bad. In order to see success in our lives, it requires work. If I apply myself in school and on the job, there will be some success that follows. However, in our spiritual lives, the success or results don’t always show up when we hope. There is no weekly spiritual paycheck from spiritual discipline. Being commended for our faith isn’t typically something we receive as “instant gratification,” which is what our society has come to expect. In Hebrews, chapter 11, Paul gives us a long list of those who were faithful. From Able to Abraham and Moses to David, Paul boasts of their faithfulness to God. But as faithful as these men and women were, they didn’t actually see what they expected.
Hebrews 11: These people of faith and devotion may not have seen the amazing results of their faithfulness; however they are and will forever enjoy the richness of their eternal rewards. Their faithfulness is our encouragement to remain steadfast. And our faithfulness will be the encouragement to others. While that may encourage me a bit to be faithful in my devotion time, I still need a little more – something that will change my attitude and my perspective to devotion.
Deuteronomy 6: Love is the key. Loving God is the way He loves us is paramount to finding the devotion I need in my heart. Approaching God with worship simply requires love for Him. If your devotion time has become chore time then it’s time for your heart to fall in love with Christ again. It’s time to step back from the world, focus on the love of Christ and rekindle that flame in your heart. When you do, your devotion time will not only become less chore like, it will spring to life as an exciting time, a time that you’ll look forward to and not dread.
Your Servant, Prayer Requests (and Praises!) If you have a prayer request and would like to see it here, please drop me an email so we can share with others.
We received
several prayer requests for the family and friends of a young man in our area
that died in a motorcycle accident this past Saturday. He was 18 years old and
a recent high school graduate by the name of John Scott. Many of his friends
are extremely sadden. Please reply if you have prayer requests, comments or simply need an open ear. I always enjoy hearing from you. <*))))))< <*))))))< <*))))))< <*))))))< <*))))))< <*))))))< Copyright © 2006 Truth Works Publishing. All rights reserved.
