Walk With Jesus - Day 6

I tell you the Truth,

[Saturday]

Saturday is again the weekly Sabbath day of rest. We rest physically but emotionally we are anything but at rest.

It’s been two days since they crucified Jesus.  Our shock concerning the events of the last two days has now turned into reality.  Jesus is gone which means our hope is gone.  We begin to doubt so many things, including our own thoughts.  We wonder how Judas could betray Jesus.  Our wonder grows to hatred for the betrayer.  How could things go so wrong so fast?  It was just over a week ago that the crowds cheered, “Hosanna, Hosanna!” when Jesus entered into the city.  They waved palm braches and we just knew that the His Kingdom on earth was about to begin.  We think of all the miraculous things He did, yet He could not save Himself from such a terrible death.  Our whole lives are just a terrific mass of confusion.  We accept the fact that things have not turned out as we thought they would.

It’s a terrible dark day.  Darkness surrounds our mind.  We feel as dark as the tomb His body is lying in.  Death consumes us.  We know its daylight, but it might as well be the pitch blackness of a stormy night.

Yet, as dark as it is in our minds, there is something inside us who have walked with Him, a small glimmer of light that we cling to.  His words of hope, healing, compassion roll in our minds.  Something inside us, perhaps even something we were taught as children reminds us that, “Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man.” [Psalm 112:4]

There are times when God seems to have left our lives.  There are times when despair is so deep that there seems to be no purpose in living.  Yet as children of God, we are not forsaken or left alone.  Our spiritual eyes cannot see the sun that is about to rise beyond the horizon.  The sun will come up.  And tomorrow will be a new day - an unbelievable day.  It is true – it is darkest just before the dawn.

Lamentations 3:21-23
This I recall in my mind, therefore I have hope. It is the Lord's Mercies that we are not consumed, because His Compassions fail not. They are new every morning: Great is Thy Faithfulness.

Your Servant,
