RISK I tell you the Truth, Greetings! Why note log on to our new GuestMap link above and post your spot on the world map? Let's see which corners of the earth we're reaching with Truth Works Devotions! Acts 15: Over and over in God’s word we read
of obedient followers risking all for the sake of the Lord. Many
risked their very lives and many lost that very thing. Living
a life of obedience to God is risky business. Sometimes
the risk is high. Sometimes low. But
it’s always risky. Whether the Lord calls me to go to
another land to spread the gospel or to go across the street, there’s a
percentage of risk involved. We risk rejection. We risk defiance. We risk
persecution. We might even risk death. Now, I come to you with a confession.
This whole business of risk plays heavy on my mind.
I’m not the stock market kind of guy. I’m
more of the certificate of deposit kind type. I’m
analytical with my life, making sure that I have all the bases covered before I
dive into a project. It’s part of
my nature, my thinking. You don’t
end up being an accountant/computer guy without being analytical. So when it comes to taking risk, I’m
at the low end of the pole. And now
this bothers me because I’ve read in the word and I’ve read in books that
men of God are risk takers. And I
began to contemplate the situation. I
began to seek the truth. And you
know what the truth will do - it will set you free! As I prayed about this Christian risk,
I began to look at my own life. The
Lord brought to mind case after case where I had been in risky situations. Seems
that a lot of my life is actually at risk. Hey,
just writing this message today is risky! Several
times I’ve written things and made mistakes and had to pay the consequences. So
maybe I am risky after all! Then it
occurred to me. This whole business
of risk all has to do with perspective. Allow me to elaborate. From the perspective of carnal man,
following God is risky. The world
tries to convince itself that we’re all crazy. However,
from the perspective of God, the risk of following Him is zilch, nada, and a big
fat zero! To the Egyptians, Moses
made a ton of risky moves. To the
Lord, Moses made no risky moves. Moses
was obedient to carry out the Lord’s instructions. And
if the Lord is on my side, I cannot lose. The key: If the Lord calls you to do
something, there is no risk involved. There
is no calculation of risk. When the
Lord asks us to act, He is with us and it is His mission that we are on and
since it is His, it cannot fail. Even
when our eyes may not see the success of the mission, His eyes do. Our
understanding is not the same as His. Our
job is not to insure success. Our
job is to be obedient. Success is
the Lords. Hebrews 6: 13When God made
his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he
swore by himself, 14saying, "I will surely bless you and give you many
descendants." 15And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was
promised. God is faithful. His
business of risk is no risk at all. Risk
is human. But in God, we have full
assurance.
