MORE THAN FINE I tell you the Truth, I apologize once again for the long delay between devotions. I’ll talk more about that next time. Today I want to focus on something that’s challenged me through the years. Is it just me, or do many of us Christians seem to be dragging through life, getting by, almost to the point of “just existing?” We all go through spells where we just seem to plod along and go with the flow. We lack excitement in our spiritual lives. It’s during times like this that we allow the world to rob us of our joy, to zap us of our spiritual strength. As unfortunate as it is that so many of us get to that point, it’s never God’s intent that we live a life of simple existence. Living the Christian life should be the greatest adventure we could hope for, yet often we miss out on the excitement that God has for us. It reminds me of a song I’ve enjoyed for a while. “When I wake in
the morning, More Than Fine by Switchfoot I want more than just ok. And the truth is, that’s what God wants for you too. How do I know this? Because of something Jesus once said, something so simple and so often repeated, but something we so often forget: John 10: Jesus came not only to give us life, but to give us life “to the full!” Nowhere in the Word does God promise us just life. He promises us abundant life, life that’s full, life that’s exciting and worth shouting about! So what’s our problem? Jesus offers abundantly full life, yet so many of us live lives that are anything but abundant. I believe the answer lies in another simple statement, another promise of God. Matthew 16:25 You see, abundant life isn’t about filling our lives with more stuff. It isn’t about seeking the most the world has to offer. Abundant and full life is a direct derivative of loosing our lives, giving them up in order to receive what Christ has for us. And what Jesus has for us is fullness and abundance and freedom. If you’re struggling today with mediocrity in your spiritual life, perhaps it’s time to consider surrendering your life. Allow Christ to take His proper place in your life – the throne of your heart. It’s our choice day by day to give up our lives. I don’t know what Christ has in store for you, but I do know this – when we refuse to hand it all over, we miss out on the true fullness and abundance that Christ offers. I encourage you today to surrender all. And tomorrow, do the same. And the day after too. And when you do, you’ll begin to understand what real fullness and abundance of life is truly all about.
