Truth Is Truth

I tell you the Truth,

It was more than a decade ago when Mike White, Mike Jicka and I stood there, a bit perplexed as to what to do next.  It was our first FCA Extreme Sports camp and the key note speaker was unable to make the trip.  I remember the three of us praying for God to give us an answer for what to do next.

And I distinctly remember us coming to one simple conclusion – tell them the truth.

With that said, we took turns “telling the truth” that evening.  For me, it was like a light in the darkness.  It suddenly occurred to me that truth is truth.  Truth is not truth because I think it is.  It’s truth only because it is.

And accepting truth is paramount to understanding who Christ is, why He came and why He died.

John 18
33Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?"
34"Is that your own idea," Jesus asked, "or did others talk to you about me?"
35"Am I a Jew?" Pilate replied. "It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?"
36Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place."
37"You are a king, then!" said Pilate.
Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."
38"What is truth?" Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him.

Pilate asks a question that the world continues to mull, “What is truth?”  We may not hear those exact words, but the simple question has been woven into the fabric of our society.  Relativism is the basis for many beliefs and our new culture.  The world wants to keep us from believing in a pure truth and would rather that we believe in truths.

To be honest, even Christian believers often prefer to live by truths as opposed to one truth.  My pastor refers to it as menu driven religion – I can pick the parts I like and simply ignore the rest.

Unfortunately, living under partial truth, half truth or just the truths we can accept falls short of understanding who Christ is and how we are to accept Him.

John 14:
6Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

This one bold statement from Jesus should be guide for us to follow.

Jesus Christ is the truth.  He is the standard for holiness.  He is the measuring stick for perfection.

Jesus Christ is the life.  His Spirit breathed life into the first man and only His Spirit can raise life from death.  It is through Christ that we are born again, that we receive newness in life.

And it’s only through this truth and life that we have access to God.

We live in a crazy world.  The enemy is hard at work and one of his favorite weapons has always been to twist the truth.  From the Garden of Eden to the temptations of Christ, Satan has taken truth and distorted it.  Whether it’s through false religion, blatant evil or whether it’s simply through twisted theology of the truth, Satan desires to confuse and confound the world.

For that reason our mission is simple.  Tell the truth.  Give them the truth.

So what is truth?

It is Christ.  Simply give them Jesus.

Your Servant,

Randy Hunt

If you have a prayer request and would like to see it here, please drop me an email so we can share with others.

“My brother, Randy Eakin, is not doing well.  He was diagnosed with cancer before Thanksgiving and had emergency surgery.  He is also a diabetic and now is having trouble healing from the surgery.  They wanted him starting chemo but he can’t because he hasn’t healed and they are still estimating that it will take another 3 months for that to heal.  Please pray that God will show us some direction.

Cindy”

Please reply if you have prayer requests, comments or simply need an open ear. I always enjoy hearing from you.
